Nearly 1 In 5 Adults In US Will Buy Apple’s iPhone

Apple iPhone will be purchased by 17% of US adultsAt least that’s what Harris Interactive Technology Research is reporting from the results of their web-based survey. With 47% of the United States’ adult population aware of the hot new Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) iPhone, 17% responded that they were planning on scooping one up in the near future.

Out of those planning a future iPhone purchase, 9% said they would buy it at launch and 8% would pony up the cash as soon as their current wireless contracts expired. The poll affirms previous assumptions that Cingular’s exclusivity on Apple’s iPhone would hurt sales - with 25% saying they would wait on their purchase until their current carrier offered the iPhone.

It looks like the teenager demographic will be making up a large part (with mommy and daddy’s money, of course) of the 1 million iPhone sales come mid-June (hopefully).

The survey polled 1,116 adults (18+ years old) and age, sex, race, education, regions, and income were normalized.
